Stepping Into Spring

Spring is a time for growth, expansion, and blooming. For many, the winter months can feel a bit like a physical, mental, emotional, even spiritual hibernation. These moments in our lives come not to bring us down, but rather to bring us to a moment in our lives where we can acknowledge stagnate or blocked energy or emotions within us. Once acknowledged, we are able to work through them with love and compassion, much like a deep tissue massage, to allow for more space for energy or more room for growth.
Winter to spring
With that said, we welcome you to spring! The days begin to stretch longer, and Mother Nature sheds her frost, allowing for color and vitality to dazzle us as she reveals her gardens. Energy moves around us and through us, but in order to take full advantage of the new season, it is important to clear out any sticky cobwebs that may still be clogging our system.

Spring reset for your chakras

The chakras, put simply, are our energy centers. Lined up our spine, we have seven main chakras, beginning at our tailbone (our root), stacking all the way up to the crown of our head. Over the next few days, we will be be exploring some basic insight into the chakra systems as well as some tips as to how we can begin to clear each chakra for a happy, healthy, and empowering spring!

The Root: Muladhara

Picture
Much like a root of a flower, our root chakra keeps us anchored. Our root chakra largely governs our security and our feelings of safety. Components and issues of muladhara include food, water, shelter, finances/money. The element of the root chakra is earth; it is here that we acknowledge our connection to the earth and reclaim our right to be here.
If you feel that your root chakra needs to be grounded (no pun intended), here are some exercises for you:
  • create a budget; claim control over your finances
  • clear away household clutter; create a safe space for yourself both mentally and physically
  • take a walk outside (preferably barefoot); slip of your shoes and feel the dew-kissed grass beneath your feet or the warm sand of the beach between your toes
  • tune into your body; take a few moments to really listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Is there a pain that you've been ignoring? Is the body asking for more rest? Set aside sometime for the body to let you know what it needs in order to feel most safe
How is your root chakra? Do you feel that you hold stress or tension in there? Do you feel that you've become separated from your natural instincts? What practices do you utilize in order to nourish your roots? Let us know in the comments below!
